The Care Camps Foundation, the only national nonprofit that solely funds pediatric oncology camps across the United States and Canada, is pleased to team up with the Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association (PCOA) to Compete for Kids!, according to a press release.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month; in honor, PCOA and Care Camps Foundation are cooking up a little friendly competition – Compete for Kids! Participating campgrounds across Pennsylvania will compete with one another in raising funds to send children with cancer to camp. Bragging rights are on the line, and each campground will be coming up with creative and fun ways to beat the other Pennsylvania campgrounds.
According to Jason Vaughan, PCOA’s executive director, “Pennsylvania’s camping community is proud to support the Care Camps Foundation and its life-changing mission. By partnering together, we’re helping to raise vital funds to send children with cancer to specialized camps where they can find joy, healing and hope. It’s more than just camping — it’s creating unforgettable moments for kids who need them most.”

“The Compete for Kids campaign is a powerful example of the camping industry coming together to make a difference,” said Jenna Berneck, development director of the Care Camps Foundation. “Campgrounds across Pennsylvania are joining forces to raise critical funds that send kids with cancer to these magical camps — where they can experience joy, hope, healing and friendship in the great outdoors.”
Last year, $2 million was awarded to over 120 pediatric oncology camps by the Care Camps Foundation. Collectively, the camps served over 41,000 kids living with cancer along with their families.
