Finding Strength and Joy at Camp
In the summer of 2022, Levi McKee’s world changed. What started as general fatigue quickly turned into a terrifying journey. After weeks of uncertainty, a trip to Kentucky Children’s Hospital revealed a large brain tumor. Surgery, radiation, and months of chemotherapy followed, but through it all, Levi remained a bright light—finding joy in playrooms and celebrating his 7th birthday while in treatment.
One of the most special moments came when Levi attended a family retreat with Kid’s Cancer Alliance at Great Wolf Lodge. It was the first getaway since his diagnosis—a chance to be a kid again. Later, at camp, he found something even more powerful: community.
“He wasn’t as strong or fast as the other kids, but he learned there were others who had fought the battle and won. He found a place where he belonged,” says his mom, Danielle.
Levi’s journey has been one of resilience, and thanks to camp, he left with more than just memories—he left with hope.
